World Mental Health Day: Lived Experiences Heard, Real Voices, Real Change

Community Action: MK write:

World Mental Health Day on 10 October is an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge stigma and encourage conversations about mental health and wellbeing. This year’s global theme, “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change,” highlights the importance of listening to people with lived experience and ensuring their voices help shape the services, support and decisions that affect their lives.

Mental health is one piece of a much bigger puzzle, connected to many other areas of people’s lives and the communities they live in. That’s why collaboration matters. Since 2021, our Mental Health Alliance has been bringing local VCSE organisations together with health and public health colleagues through regular meetings, information sharing, opportunities for collaboration and funding programmes. The Alliance provides a space for organisations to connect, share learning and work collectively to improve mental health and wellbeing across Milton Keynes. The VCSE organisations involved also bring valuable insight from the people and communities they work alongside every day, helping to ensure that lived experience informs conversations, priorities and approaches to mental health and wellbeing locally.

If your organisation is not yet involved, we’d love you to find out more and get involved. Visit the Mental Health Alliance webpage to learn more about the network and its impact on people’s lives, and watch our short films featuring organisations involved in the Alliance: here.
