World Suicide Prevention Day / Samaritans work in MK
10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day and the Samaritans have shared some useful information and resources.
As part of Samaritans’ partnership with Network Rail, they identified proactive community focus areas based on emerging risk. This is informed by factors such as life-saving interventions and contacts with vulnerable people at stations, alongside ONS suicide data for local authorities.
This year, the Milton Keynes area has been identified as a proactive community focus area, bringing together work across Milton Keynes Central, Wolverton and Bletchley. Samaritans will be working alongside their rail partners and local organisations to strengthen community support and improve awareness, access to, and visibility of the support available.
With World Suicide Prevention Day taking place on 10 September, your church may wish to use the Samaritans toolkit below to share messages across your social media channels:
If you would like to find out more about this work, a Samaritans representative will be joining Community Action: MK’s next Mental Health Alliance meeting (held online) on 1 October to talk about this work. Find out more about the Mental Health Alliance here and email tanya@communityactionmk.org if you would like to join the meeting,
Raising awareness of the support Samaritans provides can help more people know that someone is always there to listen, day or night.
