Season of Creation – 1 September to 4 October
The season starts 1 September, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and ends 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations. The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home. This year’s theme is ‘Living water’ taken from the Biblical text, Ezekiel 47:9, 12. The Feast of Creation – Sunday 6 September
Many church denominations have recently formally agreed that from this year onwards another Feast Day will be added to the Christian calendar: the Feast of Creation, which will be celebrated on the first Sunday in September. World Suicide Prevention Day – 10 September
This World Suicide Prevention Day, the Samaritans are sharing one important message: If you think someone might be suicidal, take action, interrupt their thoughts and show them you care. Let’s prevent suicide today. Because tomorrow’s too late. Resources from the Samaritans can be found here, and resources from Mind can be found here.
Education Sunday – 13 September
Education Sunday encourages local churches and Churches Together groups to support this annual celebration of teaching and learning. This year’s theme is Living Well Together, using the lectionary readings for 13 September as a starting point for prayer, worship and action. Drawing on Scripture’s vision of reconciliation, forgiveness and mutual responsibility, these resources encourage us to consider how we can build communities where people from different cultures, backgrounds and beliefs can flourish together. Peace Sunday – 20 September
The Fellowship of Reconciliation write: We live in an era of increasing division and conflict. This Peace Sunday we invite you and your church to spend more time exploring a heart for peace. What makes or breaks your heart for peace? How can Gods heart for peace be reflected in our community? The worship material and a special certificate – to celebrate those you know with a heart for peace – you’ll join hundreds of churches around the country writing a new story. Based on Gods love, justice and non-violence. One that speaks a different language to much conversation today. Peace Sunday is a chance for the church to pause and reflect on what it means to follow the Prince of Peace today. We encourage churches to have a service on the Sunday closest to the UN International Day of Peace (21 September) but you are free to schedule it for the Sunday that fits your calendar. Fairtrade Fortnight – 21 September to 4 October
The focus this year is largely on cocoa and coffee, and the theme is “Do it fair”, showing how Fairtrade helps promote fairness to people, fairness to the planet, and fairness in pay. The Fairtrade Foundation has created a general Fairtrade Fortnight guide, and Christian Concern for One World has new resources for churches, including a Fairtrade Fortnight guide with suggestions for prayers, activities, and ways to link in with Season of Creation and Harvest. They’ve also updated their guide to sourcing Fair Trade for your church.
Disability Awareness Sunday – 27 September
The 2026 Disability Awareness Sunday resource is on ‘One Body, Many Parts‘, reminding us that everyone, disabled or not, has a part to play in God’s kingdom. It explores 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, which concludes: ‘You are the body of Christ. Single Friendly Church Week – 27 September to 4 October
Single Friendly Church Network is holding its first ever Single Friendly Church Week from 27 September to 4 October 2026. Right now, many single people are leaving church feeling unseen, isolated, and unwelcome. Not because their faith has wavered – but because the communities that should embrace them have overlooked them. The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that around 8.6 million people across the UK now live alone, and that number is growing in every age group. Research from over 3,000 single Christians tells us that far too many feel their church culture is not invitational to their experiences. Single Friendly Church Week is our moment to change this. For one week, churches, leaders, and individuals across the UK are coming together to say clearly: single people at every stage of life are welcomed, valued, and included here. Whether you’ve never married, dating, divorced, widowed, a single parent, or single in church, you belong at the heart of Christian communities, and not on their edges.
