Calendar – October 2026
Black History Month
This year marks the 39th anniversary of Black History Month (BHM) in Britain. BHM provides an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and understand the contributions, experiences and history of Black people in Britain, while reflecting on the richness and vitality they bring to the Church. You can find resources from CTBI, including a sermon by Richard Reddie, Director of Justice and Inclusion, here. You can find a prayer for Black History Month from the Joint Public Issues Team here.
Good Money Sunday – 4 October

Homelessness Sunday – 4 October
Housing Justice will once again be supporting Homelessness Sunday on Sunday 4 October and this year’s theme is ‘community cohesion’. Churches can use the resources on their website to integrate the themes or event into their services, to encourage congregations to consider what they can do to alleviate homelessness and poverty in their own communities. More information here. World Homelessness Day is 10 October.
World Mental Health Day – 10 October
Join Mind‘s See Me Now campaign to ensure everyone gets the support they need, when they need it.
Prisons Week 2026 – 11 to 17 October | Prisons Sunday – 11 October

Sight Loss Sunday – 11 October
Sight Loss Sunday is an initiative by Torch Trust, an organisation dedicated to enabling blind and partially sighted people to encounter Jesus, grow in their faith and thrive in Christian community. Sight Loss Sunday is a great opportunity to celebrate those who are blind and partially sighted in our congregations and communities; and to equip the church to achieve it’s aim of welcoming all of God’s people. Even if there is no one in your church who you can currently think of that has sight loss, the RNIB suggest that one in five people will live with sight loss in their lifetime. As we seek to reach out to the world with the good news of Jesus, having churches that are welcoming and accessible for those with sight loss is a demonstration of God’s love in action.
There are lots of ways that you can mark Sight Loss Sunday – through a full ‘Sight Loss Sunday service’ or including sight loss in other aspects of church life eg in the prayers. You can find the resources here.
Church Action on Poverty Sunday 2026 – 18 October
