Tuesday 20th January 2026 | 1 – 3PM

Discovery Room, John Lewis, centre: MK

Community Action: MK is delighted to host this follow-on workshop from their 2025 Anti-Racism training series. They write:

This session will be led by EDI specialist Hannah Olarewaju, and is designed to deepen the conversations and learning established in the earlier workshops on racial inclusion and equity.

This interactive workshop builds on your existing knowledge and offers practical tools to help you respond to racially charged, uncomfortable or sensitive situations with emotional intelligence rather than instinctive reaction.

It provides a supportive space to strengthen self-awareness, unlearn outdated behaviours, and adopt more inclusive language, attitudes and practices.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Explore how emotional intelligence can enhance your approach to racial inclusion and equitable practice
  • Learn strategies to manage your emotional responses in real time
  • Build confidence in standing up against racial microaggressions and modelling inclusive behaviour
  • Practise communication tools for fostering respectful, empathetic dialogue
  • Reflect on how language can empower or exclude, and learn ways to adopt terminology that respects diverse identities
  • Work with structured methods (such as the M.E.F.I.R.S.T approach) to navigate difficult conversations constructively
  • Learn how to create and sustain spaces where all voices are heard, valued and respected

This session is designed to continue your development as champions of diversity—equipped with the emotional agility, self-awareness and practical skills needed to help shape more equitable environments in your workplace and community.
