SUMMARY:Chornobyl 40: Memory\, Peace and Responsibility
DESCRIPTION:Chornobyl 40: Memory\, Peace and Responsibility to be held on 26 April 2026 at the Milton Keynes Peace Pagoda\, Memory Tree\, Earth Medicine Wheel\, and the Buddhist Temple at Willen Lake. This event marks the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster – one of the greatest nuclear tragedies in human history. It is a moment for remembrance\, reflection\, and a shared commitment to peace. \nIn the present time\, when nuclear threats are once again becoming part of our daily reality\, it is more important than ever to remember the true cost of human suffering\, environmental devastation\, and the long-lasting consequences of human error. Chornobyl remains a powerful reminder that the price of negligence is paid by generations.\nHumanity must learn the lessons of the past and take greater responsibility for protecting our planet\, preserving nature\, and safeguarding future generations from the dangers of war and nuclear destruction. \nThe Milton Keynes Peace Pagoda\, built as a symbol against war and nuclear destruction\, offers a powerful and meaningful setting for this occasion. Together with the Ukrainian community\, local residents\, children\, faith groups\, and peace advocates\, we hope to create a day of remembrance\, unity\, and hope. \nEvent Running Order:\n12:00 – 12:20 | Milton Keynes Peace Pagoda – Opening Ceremony\n• Welcome and introduction\n• Ukrainian children’s poetry and reflective readings on peace\, memory\, and hope\n• Personal testimony from the daughter of a Chornobyl liquidator\n• Reflection from British peace activist Marcus on environmental responsibility and anti-nuclear values\n• Invitation to continue to the Memory Tree \n12:20 – 12:30 | Memory Tree – Symbol of Life and Hope\n• Crane Garland Ceremony\n• Paper cranes placed as symbols of peace\, remembrance\, healing\, and prayers for future generations\n• Procession to the Earth Medicine Wheel \n12:30 – 12:50 | Earth Medicine Wheel – Circle of Peace and Healing\n• Peace Symbol Installation and Candle Lighting\n• Circle of Support formed by children and adults as a symbol of unity and shared responsibility for peace\n• Moment of silence\n• Procession to the Temple \n12:50 – 13:45 | Buddhist Temple – Sunflower Seed Planting & Joint Vigil for Peace\n• Ukrainian children plant sunflower seeds as symbols of hope\, resilience\, and life overcoming tragedy\n• Joint Vigil led by Buddhist monks of the Nipponzan Myohoji Temple in remembrance of the victims of Chornobyl\, for peace in Ukraine\, and for peace in the world\n• Reflection on humanity’s responsibility to protect life and nature\n• Closing words of gratitude\n• Tea\, biscuits\, and community networking \nThis event is not only a remembrance of the past\, but also a message for the future – that peace must be protected\, nature must be respected\, and memory must become responsibility. \nEveryone is welcome.
